Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, and you include some figures, such as refrigerators reaching 100% and housework starting at 50 hours. However, the response only partially reports the chart’s main features, and several statements misread or confuse the data. For example, refrigerators were at about 2% in 1920, not the “highest used,” and they reached 100% by 1980 rather than rising sharply only in 2019. The claim that washing machines were the lowest is not accurate across the period, and the housework trend is not described with its later values. Give a clear overview, then compare all three appliances and the hours trend using accurate key stages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and connectors such as “Overall,” “In contrast” and “However” signal relationships. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview contains unclear comparisons and the later paragraphs repeat or contradict earlier points. The final paragraph begins “Elaborate” but does not develop a clear comparison, while the appliance details are incomplete and not grouped systematically. Some linking phrases are also used in ways that do not clarify the relationship between ideas. A more coherent structure would present the overall trends first, then describe appliance ownership in one paragraph and housework hours in another, with each paragraph moving chronologically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “gradually,” “fluctuations,” “sharp decline” and “highest figure,” showing an attempt to describe trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “electronic equipments,” “in the peaked figure,” “highest used” and “houseworking equipments.” Spelling errors, including “gradullay,” “significanly” and “decilne,” also reduce precision. Choose standard chart language and use it consistently: for example, describe the percentage of households that owned each appliance, rather than saying households “used” equipment. More accurate verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” “levelled off” and “remained stable” would help distinguish the trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and some basic clauses communicate the intended trend. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and verb forms can make relationships difficult to understand. For instance, “The graph depicts information about, one country's households used…” has an incomplete, awkward structure, while “Refrigerator was not the highest figure” lacks a clear grammatical subject and comparison. In “it showed a gradual increased,” the form after the adjective is incorrect, and several sentences join ideas without clear punctuation. Practise building accurate clauses such as “The proportion of households owning refrigerators rose from about 2% in 1920 to 100% in 1980,” then vary these with correctly formed comparisons.
