Student answer (Band 5.0)

The line charts below show the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and amount of time spent doing housework in households in one country between 1920 and 2019.

Overall, we can see that in early time as technology was not common as it is now so, in start of 20th century the percentage of households with electrical appliances was very low.On the other hand, the numbers of hours per week was very high as compared to know.

We can see that, the numbers of refrigerator owners was limited to zero in 1920 then we see a dramatical increase in 1940 and 1960 with over 55 and then 90 percent respectively. Then, 100 percent of household had refrigerator from 1980 to onwards 2019.As vaccum cleaner is concerned, its percentage in 1920 was 40 then, 60 in 1940.In 1960 the percentage of households with vaccum cleaner

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, and you report several refrigerator figures accurately, including the rise to about 90% in 1960 and full ownership from 1980. However, the response is incomplete: it stops midway through the vacuum-cleaner description and gives no figures or trend for housework, while the washing-machine series is omitted. The claim that refrigerator ownership was “zero” is also inaccurate; it was about 2%. The response contains 117 words, below the required 150, which contributes to the limited coverage. To develop the report, include a concise overview and compare all three appliance trends with the decline in weekly housework.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence, an overview, and a paragraph beginning with appliance details. The contrast introduced by “On the other hand” is relevant, and “As vacuum cleaner is concerned” signals a shift in focus. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the response ends in the middle of a sentence and does not complete its account of the data. Linking phrases such as “then” and “we see” are repetitive, and the overview does not lead into a balanced comparison of the chart’s main features. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the overview and key details, and connect comparisons explicitly rather than relying on repeated sequencing words.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “ownership,” “percentage,” “households,” and “dramatic increase,” so the reader can generally identify the subject and trends. There is also an attempt to vary phrasing with “On the other hand” and “As … is concerned.” However, several choices are inaccurate or informal, such as “limited to zero,” “in early time,” and “as compared to know,” and spelling errors in “vaccum” reduce precision. “Dramatical” is not the appropriate form; “dramatic” or “sharp” would be more natural. Aim for accurate collocations and consistent chart language, for example “the proportion of households owning a refrigerator” and “weekly housework hours.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, such as “Overall, we can see that …” and “As vacuum cleaner is concerned …”. However, control is uneven, and several sentences contain errors that make the relationships between ideas less clear. For example, “in early time as technology was not common as it is now so” combines clauses awkwardly, while “the numbers of hours per week was” has a subject–verb agreement error. Missing spaces after full stops and commas also affect punctuation, and the final sentence is incomplete. Build shorter, complete sentences first, then use subordinate clauses accurately; check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries before finishing.
