Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the broad trends: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework time fell, and you note that housework remained at 15 hours from 1980 to 2000. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear. The overview says refrigerators and vacuum cleaners recorded the “major change” but does not explain that refrigerators reached 100% by 1980 and vacuum cleaners by 2000. More importantly, you state that washing machines and refrigerators both rose to 100%, although washing-machine ownership ended at about 75%. You also report vacuum-cleaner ownership as rising to almost 75%, whereas it reached 100%, and describe a fluctuation in 1960 when the trend was upward. The main features are relevant, but more precise comparisons and figures are needed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs covering appliance ownership and housework hours. This gives the reader a sensible route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall,” “Firstly,” and “As regards” signal the stages of the report. The ideas are generally connected, though some linking is mechanical or not quite logical. For example, “Contrarily” does not clearly express the relationship between the appliance trends, and “However” before the unchanged housework figure suggests a contrast that is not explained. The appliance paragraph also groups washing machines and refrigerators before switching to vacuum cleaners without a clear comparison. Use transitions to show actual similarities and differences, and keep related figures together.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “ownership,” “declined,” and “remained constant,” so the main trends are usually understandable. There are also attempts at more formal wording, such as “electrical instruments” and “consumed,” but these are not natural choices for this chart. Several phrases are awkward or imprecise, including “percentage of households in electrical devices,” “households ownership,” and “hours per week used these devices.” Spelling errors such as “continously” and “occured” also reduce accuracy. Aim for standard collocations such as “the proportion of households owning appliances” and “time spent on housework.” More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish ownership levels from changes in ownership.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “but” and clauses beginning with “that.” Most of the intended meaning can be followed, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “in percentage of households in electrical devices” has an unclear grammatical structure, while “the number of hours per week used these devices decreased” is missing a suitable construction such as “spent on housework.” In “the proportion of households ownership,” the noun phrase is not formed correctly. Punctuation also needs attention: there is no space after full stops in “change. However” and “2019.However,” and the comma after “As regards” is unnecessary. Practise accurate noun phrases and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
