Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad topic and mention that housework hours fell, and you note that some appliance ownership rose. However, the main features are only partly reported, and several statements misrepresent the data. For example, washing machines and vacuum cleaners were not both at 100% in 2019: washing machines reached about 75%, while vacuum cleaners reached 100%. Refrigerators were not at 50% in 2000; they had reached 100% by 1980 and remained there. The overview also omits the sharp rise in refrigerator ownership and the overall decline in housework from 50 to about 11 hours. Select the key trends accurately and support them with comparisons across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has separate paragraphs and attempts an overview, followed by discussion of the two charts, so there is some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because details are not grouped consistently and some references are unclear. For instance, “it was fifty percent of both implements in 2000” does not make clear which appliances “it” refers to, and the final refrigerator statement conflicts with the earlier discussion. Linking phrases such as “on the other hand” and “although” are used, but they do not always express the relationship between the ideas accurately. Organise the response into a clear overview and focused paragraphs, one comparing appliance trends and one describing housework hours.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “possession,” “domestic chores,” “electronic appliances,” and “dramatically,” showing an attempt to vary your wording. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning hard to interpret. “Electrical implements” is an awkward substitute for appliances, while “the range of vacuum cleaners were on top” does not clearly describe household ownership. “Transferred into hundred percent” is also unsuitable for a percentage trend. Prefer precise chart language such as “the proportion of households owning…,” “rose to,” “remained stable,” and “fell.” Check collocations and use the same clear terms for each appliance throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including “Although the use of electronic appliances decreased the time…,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “The chart illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, and “the amount of hours of households per week” has an unclear grammatical structure. Several sentences also run together or begin with a lower-case word after a full stop, as in “1920 .however” and “2019.Compared.” Practise accurate sentence patterns for describing trends, and proofread for agreement, articles, and punctuation before submitting.
