Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two subjects and give a broad overview that appliance ownership generally rose while housework time fell. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it discusses the refrigerator and begins a comparison with washing machines, but does not report the vacuum-cleaner trend or give meaningful figures for the other appliances and housework. The claim that the refrigerator rose “throughout” is broadly accurate, but the overview does not capture that refrigerators and vacuum cleaners reached full household ownership, while washing-machine ownership fluctuated slightly. The response also stops mid-sentence (“was the se”), leaving the comparison unfinished. It is substantially below the required 150 words, so there is not enough selected and reported information to summarise the charts adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by an overview and then a detail paragraph. “Overall” and “At the same time” signal a summary and a contrast, so the reader can identify the intended direction of the discussion. However, the progression is very limited because the response ends during a sentence and develops only one appliance in detail. The phrase “In between three appliances” makes the overview difficult to follow, and “Conversely” introduces a comparison that is not completed. To improve, use complete paragraphs with a clear overview, then group appliance trends and housework figures logically, using linking expressions only where the relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “line charts,” “electrical appliances,” “trend,” and “per week,” and the general meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “refrigrator” is misspelled repeatedly, “uparward” is incorrect, and “gained a drastically increase” uses an unsuitable form and collocation. “Went down alot” is also informal and imprecise for an academic summary. Choose accurate trend language and check spelling carefully; for example, “rose sharply to 100%” and “housework hours declined considerably” would express the data more naturally. More varied vocabulary for comparing the three appliances would also help.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, such as “At the same time, the time spent on housework went down…” and “In 1920, … but it gained…”. However, control is inconsistent, and the unfinished final sentence (“Conversely, washing machine was the se”) prevents the comparison from being grammatically complete. The overview sentence beginning “In between three appliances…” has an unclear structure, while “refrigerator was at its lowest” lacks an article before the appliance name. The phrase “gained a drastically increase” also contains a faulty grammatical construction. Practise building complete sentences around a clear subject and verb, and check articles and adjective/adverb forms before finishing.
