Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad contrast that appliance ownership increased while housework time fell, and you include some relevant figures, such as 50 hours at the start and around 10 hours at the end. However, the response only partially reports the chart’s main features, and several statements misrepresent the data. Vacuum-cleaner ownership was already 30% in 1920, not zero, and it rose to 100% by 2000 and remained there in 2019; it did not decline to 71%. The three appliances were not all at 70% in 1960, since refrigerators were at about 90%. The overview also says appliance use caused the reduction in housework, which the charts do not establish. Select the main trends accurately and compare the series more carefully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph containing chart details, and a concluding statement. The contrast introduced by “On the other side” also signals a shift between trends. However, the response does not progress clearly through the information: it moves between appliances and housework, then makes an inaccurate claim about vacuum cleaners, without grouping the main trends in a consistent way. “To Conclude” repeats the general idea rather than adding a clear overview. Organise the response around the overall trends, then report appliance figures together and housework figures separately. Use linking phrases to show genuine comparisons, and make references such as “it” and “the use of it” explicit so the reader can follow which appliance or trend is meant.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “households,” “electrical appliances,” “reduced,” and “increased,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “owning of home appliances,” “time which is being spared,” and “amount of usage.” Spelling errors such as “macine,” “drastacilly,” “applicances,” and “eletrical” are noticeable and reduce clarity. Aim for precise, conventional chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the “proportion of households owning” an appliance and the “number of hours spent on housework,” rather than using less natural phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “During 1920” and one using “whereas.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, tense, agreement, and articles sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “During 1920 no one used vacuum cleaner unitil 1940 where as…” combines ideas without a clear grammatical structure, while “the amount of house work has also reduced” uses an unsuitable tense for describing completed chart data. “Almost all the people use it” also shifts into the present and has unclear reference. Use past-tense forms consistently for the period shown, check singular and plural agreement, and separate comparisons into complete, clearly punctuated sentences.
