Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the topic and reports some relevant trends, including the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner reaching 100% and the washing machine fluctuating. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not mention the substantial fall in weekly housework, a major feature of the charts, and the appliance trends are not always accurately described. For example, the refrigerator began at about 2%, not 0%, and reached 100% in 1980; the washing machine started at 40%, not the highest level, and its low point was around 65%, not 40%. The response is also below the required 150 words: 132 words, with 23 copied prompt words excluded. Add the housework data and make comparisons more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing appliance ownership. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “By contrast” help signal movement between points. However, the progression is limited because the second chart is omitted entirely, and the final paragraph ends without a clear concluding comparison. Some linking is mechanical, while the overview’s list of appliance types does not help organise the key trends. Grouping the information by major patterns—for example, appliances rising while housework hours fall—would create a clearer progression. Use paragraphing to cover both charts and connect related figures rather than presenting each appliance as an isolated description.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “increasing,” “fluctuated,” and “unchanged,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “accounted as same,” “highest peak of it,” and “started from highest point.” Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “demostrates,” “percantage,” “flactuated,” and “vecuum,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the report. Aim for precise chart language such as “stood at,” “rose to,” “levelled off,” and “declined.” Vary repeated forms of “increased” and “at the end” to describe changes more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, particularly with articles, agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. For example, “there are three type” needs plural agreement, while “the washing machine which is started” uses an incorrect verb construction. The sentence beginning “To begin with, the refrigerator…” contains a confusing break before “but started,” and “in 1980 and remain unchanged” lacks a clear subject and correct tense agreement. Punctuation and spacing around brackets are also uneven. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check tense consistency when describing past data and trends continuing to 2019.
