Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the general subject—household ownership of appliances—and includes a few relevant figures, such as vacuum cleaner ownership rising from 30% to 100%. However, it does not provide an overview of the main trends, and it omits the housework-hours graph entirely. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: washing-machine ownership did not increase steadily, as it fell from about 70% in 1960 to 65% in 1980, and the final year is 2019, not 2020. The refrigerator began at about 2%, rather than zero. At 71 words, the response is also substantially below the required minimum, leaving the task only minimally addressed. Include both graphs, summarise their contrasting trends, and support the overview with key comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to connect ideas using “furthermore,” “also,” and “moreover,” and the response stays broadly focused on appliance ownership. However, these links are crowded into one long, difficult-to-follow sentence, so they do not create clear progression. The opening sentence is separate, but there is no organised overview or grouping of the information, and the housework data is not incorporated. Some references, such as “it” and “all year,” are unclear. To improve, use a short introduction, a separate overview, and logically grouped detail sentences; use linking words only where they show a clear relationship between points.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant terms, including “washing machine,” “refrigerator,” and “vacuum cleaner,” so the reader can recognise the topic. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or spellings make the meaning less clear: “percentile” is not the right term for the chart’s percentages, while “housekeeper” refers to a person rather than a household. “Linear representation” is also an unnatural description of a line graph. Use accurate chart language such as “the proportion of households” and “ownership,” and check spelling of key appliance names. A wider range of precise trend verbs, including “rose,” “declined,” and “levelled off,” would help describe the data more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to form connected sentences, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “In the year 1920 of washing machine it was sharply incresed” has an unclear sentence structure and an incorrect verb form; “the refrigerator was incresed” also uses a passive construction where an active trend verb is needed. The final clause, “in vacum cleaner in year 1920 to year 2020 it was start,” is difficult to interpret because the time phrase and verb pattern are not controlled. Most of the response relies on one extended sentence, with little variety in sentence structure. Practise clear subject–verb patterns, such as “Ownership of refrigerators rose from about 2% in 1920 to 100% in 1980,” and separate comparisons into complete sentences.
