Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad subject and discuss all four series, including the overall rise in appliance ownership and fall in housework time. However, the response only partially reports the chart: it gives little systematic comparison across years and includes explanations about awareness, safety, electricity use and people’s reactions that are not shown in the data. Several figures are inaccurate: refrigerator ownership was about 2% in 1920, not 10%, and reached 100% by 1980; washing-machine ownership rose from 40% to 75%, rather than increasing by only 30% across the period. The housework figures are hours, not percentages. A concise overview of the main trends, followed by accurate key figures, would make the report more complete and data-focused.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has separate paragraphs for the refrigerator, washing machine, vacuum cleaner and housework, so the reader can identify the topic of each section. However, the organisation follows appliance-by-appliance commentary rather than presenting a clear overview and then comparing the main trends. Transitions such as “In first” and “After knowing importance” do not clearly connect chart information, while repeated explanations about usefulness interrupt progression. Some references are also unclear, for example “it just increase 30 percent in century,” which does not specify the exact change. Begin with a short overview, group related trends, and use clear time comparisons such as “by 1980” and “over the period” to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “refrigerator,” “washing machine,” “vacuum cleaner,” and “housework,” and attempt phrases such as “ownership” and “purchasing demands.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “quantity of time spend doing in housework,” “refrigerator uses,” and “going to 100 percent.” Spelling errors such as “awarness,” “Envoirment,” “purchace,” and “appliences” are noticeable and sometimes make reading harder. Prefer precise chart-reporting language, for example “the proportion of households owning a refrigerator rose,” and avoid unsupported descriptions of people’s motives. Checking spelling and using standard collocations would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors frequently affect clarity. The opening is a sentence fragment: “The illustration showing changes…”; it needs a main verb, such as “The illustration shows…”. Other examples include “In first we discuss,” “Washing machine uses in 1920 is 40 percent,” and “it just increase 30 percent,” where articles, verb forms and sentence structure are faulty. Tense also shifts between past and present, as in “people use” and “it will decrease,” although the chart describes a completed period. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and consistent past-tense reporting, while checking articles and singular/plural agreement.
