Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both charts and include a clear broad trend: appliance ownership generally rose while weekly housework time fell. Several figures are reported accurately, including refrigerators reaching 90% in 1960 and 100% by 1980, and housework declining from 50 to 15 hours by 1980. However, the overview is partly unclear or inaccurate: the appliances did not represent the “largest proportion” in 1920, and the lowest change was not clearly the washing machine; its ownership rose overall from 40% to 75%, with only a dip around 1980. The refrigerator began at about 2%, not 0%, and the washing-machine trend is left without later figures. The final year is 2019, not 2020. Select the main comparisons more precisely and summarise all three appliance trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with an opening overview followed by appliance details and then housework figures. This gives the reader some organisation, and time markers such as “In 1920,” “In 1960” and “In 2019” help locate information. However, progression is uneven: the overview contains confusing contrasts, and the washing-machine discussion stops after its starting point, interrupting the appliance comparison. Several transitions are repetitive or mechanically used, including repeated “after two decades” and “Furthermore.” Some references are unclear, particularly “they” in the housework paragraph, which could refer to appliances rather than hours. Grouping the three appliance trends together, then describing housework, and using clearer links between comparisons would make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “increased,” “climbed,” “fell” and “reached,” so the main direction of change is often understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural for describing charts, such as “appliances were used for lowest amount of hours” and “it normaly increased.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “appliences,” “Vcuum,” and “refrigerater,” which reduce precision. “Rise and fall” is used for the washing machine, but the response does not explain the pattern or give its later values. Aim for accurate collocations such as “the proportion of households owning…” and vary trend verbs while checking spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the reader can generally identify the years and figures being described. However, errors are frequent, and some longer constructions are difficult to follow. Examples include “0% house had refrigerator,” “It maintain its percentage,” and “ever house started to using it,” where articles, verb forms and sentence structure are not controlled. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “in1940. after two decades,” while the final sentence, “50 hours used every appliances,” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Use complete clauses with a consistent past tense for historical data—for example, “The figure rose to 52% in 1940”—and check articles, agreement and sentence boundaries.
