Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the overall rise in appliance ownership and the fall in housework time, and you note the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner’s near-universal ownership by 2019. However, several details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerators had about 2% ownership in 1920, not zero, and the vacuum cleaner did not surpass the other appliances in 2019; both it and the refrigerator were at 100%, while washing machines were at about 75%. The claim that washing-machine ownership continued to “accelerate” also overstates a series that dipped from 70% to 65% before rising again. The housework trend is mentioned only generally, without figures or key stages. Select and report the main comparisons more precisely, including the decline from 50 to 11 hours.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing the data. This helps the reader identify the topic and the broad trends. However, progression within the detail paragraph is uneven: it moves from 1920 to 1960 and 1980, then makes a broad statement about 1980–2019 without reporting the important intermediate comparisons. The final sentence about housework is detached from the preceding appliance figures and does not develop that trend. Linking words such as “meanwhile” and “as” are attempted, but some are awkwardly placed or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. Group the appliance trends together and give housework its own connected comparison, using clear time references.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “prevalent,” “upward trend,” and “downward trend,” and the main meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more descriptive phrasing, such as “most dramatic changes.” However, some choices are imprecise or unnatural: “house chores” and “work load” are less suitable than standard chart language, while “maintained its streak” does not clearly describe a fluctuating figure. Spelling errors such as “vaccum,” “alomst,” and “appiances” are noticeable, and “note worthy” should be one word. Aim for precise terms such as “proportion of households” and “hours spent on housework,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including the contrast in “as it maintained its streak and continued to accelerate with only one year with a slight downward trend.” Most of the intended meaning can be understood, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems reduce accuracy. For example, “30% households owned” needs an article or possessive construction, and “washing machine was the most prevalent” needs an article. In “washing machine experienced a significant declined,” the noun form should follow the adjective. Several sentences also have missing spaces after commas, and the overview contains doubled full stops. Use articles consistently, check noun and verb forms, and punctuate sentence boundaries cleanly.
