Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad contrast between rising appliance ownership and falling housework time, and report several relevant appliance trends. However, the response only partially covers the task: the second chart is introduced but not described, ending with “the highest” and leaving its figures and overall decline unreported. Some details are also inaccurate or unclear: refrigerator ownership was about 2% in 1920, not clearly covered in your account of its rise, and the washing-machine figure in 2019 was about 75%, rather than simply “over 70%.” The overview also says refrigerator and vacuum-cleaner ownership changed rapidly but does not clearly summarise the housework trend. The response is one word below the required minimum. Include a complete account of both charts and a concise, accurate overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph about appliance ownership. Sequencing within that paragraph is generally chronological, and phrases such as “After that” and “Similarly” help connect comparisons. However, the final paragraph is incomplete, so the discussion stops abruptly at “the highest” and there is no progression through the housework data. Some linking is also imprecise: “Reversely” does not clearly express the intended contrast, and the overview’s ideas are not developed into a clear summary of both charts. Complete the final paragraph and use straightforward links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to make relationships between trends explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “peaked,” “remained constant,” “steadily,” and “fluctuate,” which helps communicate changes over time. There is also an attempt to vary wording rather than repeat “increased.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “vaccum clearner,” “spenting,” “Reverasely,” and “frm.” Several expressions are unnatural or imprecise, such as “interest on doing housework” and “Ownership … was fluctuate,” which make the intended meaning less clear. Use accurate chart language and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the “amount of time spent on housework” and say ownership “fluctuated” or “varied.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses linked with “which” and time expressions such as “After that.” Some sentence patterns communicate the main appliance trends, but grammatical errors are frequent and occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “The given charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “Ownership … was fluctuate” uses an incorrect verb form. “Vaccum cleaner begins … which was increase steadily” also shifts tense and has an incorrect passive construction. The opening sentence has an awkward structure, and the final fragment, “the highest,” is incomplete. Use past-tense verbs consistently for the historical data, check agreement, and ensure every sentence has a complete clause.
