Student answer (Band 5.5)

The line graph illustrates the changes in ownership of eletrical appliances and amount of time people spent doing household things in one country from era 1920 to 2019. Overall, their is a increase in number of all the appliances and gradually decline in number of hours people spend doing household things per week.

As we can see the number of refrigerator was almost 1 in 1920 which is the least one and the washing machine has the highest numbers which is 40. After 20 years their is a huge gain in usage of refrigerator which was become 55 and number of vaccum become clearner 50 and washing machine with highest number again with 60. Number of vaccum cleaner and washing become same in 1960 and number of refrigerator become 90 which was highest and become 90. In 2000, the number of vaccum and refrigerator become 100 which then goes to 2019 and in number of washing machine their was a fluctuation in numbers of washing machine and become 65 in 2019.

On the other hand the number of hours people spend doing household work gradully decline with the passage of time. In starting in 1920 it was 50 hours per week as it was going doing in 2019 it become 10 hours per week.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall pattern: appliance ownership generally rose, while weekly housework time fell. You also report several relevant figures, including refrigerators at about 2% in 1920 and 100% by 1980, and housework declining from 50 to around 10 hours. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: washing-machine ownership was about 75% in 2019, not 65%, and the refrigerator reached 100% in 1980, not only by 2000. The overview also says all appliances increased, overlooking the washing machine’s dip from 70% to 65% in 1980. To strengthen the response, summarise the key contrasts more precisely and describe the housework trend’s plateau around 1980–2000 as well as its overall decline.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by appliance details and then housework figures. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. However, progression within the appliance paragraph is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in “number of refrigerator become 90 which was highest and become 90,” where the repeated figure obscures the comparison. Linking phrases such as “As we can see” and “On the other hand” are used, but connections between individual years and trends are not always clear. Use one paragraph for the appliance series and another for housework, and organise each chronologically with clear comparisons. Refer to the figures consistently so the reader can track which appliance each number describes.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “ownership,” “fluctuation,” “decline,” and “per week,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or informal, such as “household things,” “huge gain in usage,” and “number of refrigerator.” There are also spelling errors in “eletrical,” “vaccum,” and “gradully,” which reduce precision. Aim for standard chart language: describe percentages as the “proportion of households owning” an appliance, and use verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” “levelled off,” and “reached.” More accurate collocations and careful spelling would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriate for an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, some grammatical errors make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “their is a increase” has errors in agreement and article use, while “which was become 55” uses an incorrect verb form. In “the number of washing machine their was a fluctuation,” the sentence structure is incomplete, and “as it was going doing in 2019” is difficult to interpret. Use past simple forms consistently for the historical data, and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural nouns. Shorter, complete sentences would help you report each trend accurately while you build control of more complex comparisons.
