Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graphs depict the variation in possession of various electrical machines used in household work and how these electrical appliances ownership reduced the working hours spent for doing chores in a country between 1920 to 2019.

Oerall, the first graph demonstrates the variation in numbers of houses that contain refrigerator, washing machines and vacuum cleaner. And second graph illustrates how the ownership of these appliances reduced the manual efforts and duration spent for doing housework.

According to the illustration, in the year 1920 maximum number of housese had washing machine and its ownership varied steadily from 40 % to roughly 75% until 2019.30 % of the houses possessed vacuum cleaner in the year 2019 and this ratio increased to a noticeable extent as in the year 2019 every house owned vacuum cleaner. None of the house had refrigerator back in the year 1920 but its ownership peaked to 90% just after four decades and in 2019 it was owned by every family .Before the introduction of these tachnically advanced appliances people used to spent 50 hours per week doing houseworks in 1920. These working hours declined to 20 hours per week after two decades and diminshed to ten hours until 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both graphs and identify the main relationship: appliance ownership generally rose while weekly housework time fell. Several figures and trends are reported accurately, including washing-machine ownership rising from 40% to about 75%, and housework declining from 50 hours to around 10–11. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: refrigerators were present in about 2% of households in 1920, not none, and reached 90% in 1960 rather than “just after four decades” if this means 1960 is not made explicit. Vacuum-cleaner ownership was 30% in 1920, not 2019. The overview also says appliances reduced manual effort, which is a reasonable interpretation but not directly measured. Include the refrigerator and vacuum cleaner’s key stages more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph of supporting details. It also groups the appliance trends with the decline in housework, so the reader can follow the broad comparison. However, progression within the detail paragraph is uneven: the vacuum-cleaner sentence gives its starting figure but then shifts to the 2019 endpoint without clearly stating the year of the first figure. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “According to the illustration” and “Before the introduction of these technically advanced appliances,” since the appliances were already present in 1920. Use clearer sequencing by describing each appliance across the years, then summarising the hours trend, with accurate time references and cleaner sentence boundaries.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “ownership,” “possessed,” “declined,” and “manual efforts,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the variation in possession” and “technically advanced appliances,” but some expressions are unnatural or imprecise. “Variation in numbers of houses” would be better expressed as changes in the proportion of households, while “working hours” could be confused with employment rather than housework time. Spelling errors such as “Oerall,” “housese,” “tachnically,” and “diminshed” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling; prefer familiar, natural collocations over elaborate wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “and” and time expressions such as “Before the introduction…” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “between 1920 to 2019” should be “between 1920 and 2019,” and “people used to spent” should be “people used to spend.” There are also problems with articles, plurals, and agreement in “None of the house had” and “every house owned vacuum cleaner.” Several sentences run together without spaces after full stops, and punctuation around clauses is inconsistent. Build accuracy by checking verb patterns, singular/plural forms, and sentence boundaries, while retaining the complex structures you are attempting.
