Student answer (Band 6.0)
The charts below illustrates the ownership changes of electrical appliances and time spent doing housework in households between 1920 and 2019 in one country.
Overall, the most noticeable feature is the refrigerator showing drastic increase and washing machine shows slight improve in 2019. The percentage of households with electrical appliances shows upward trend. However, the number of hours of housework per household shows downward trend.
In detail, the percentage of increase in washing machine started with 40% in 1920 showed highest fluctuations and showed a slight increase in 2019 with 70% approximately. Whereas the percentage of refrigerator started with 0% in 1920 showed a dramatic lift with 100% in 1980 and remained steady. Furthermore, the use of vaccum cleaner showed the maximum number of variations as it started with 30% and rapidly increased in 2000 with 100% which remained constant till 2019.
Susequently, the number of hours of housework done in a week showed severe downfall as it started with 50% in 1920 and decrease to 10% in 2019.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover both charts and give a clear overall contrast: appliance ownership generally rose, while housework time fell. You also identify important features, including refrigerators reaching full ownership by 1980 and vacuum cleaners by 2000. Some details, however, are inaccurate or unclear: washing-machine ownership ends at about 75%, not 70%, and the housework figure falls from 50 hours to 11 hours, not from 50% to 10%. The claim that washing machines showed the “highest fluctuations” is not supported; their line changes relatively little compared with the refrigerator’s rapid rise. Your overview and selection of trends are relevant, but more precise reporting and clearer comparisons would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on appliance ownership, and a final paragraph on housework. This gives the reader a coherent overall route through the information. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “Whereas” help signal relationships, though some are used mechanically or do not connect the ideas smoothly. For example, “Whereas” begins a sentence fragment-like contrast, and “Susequently” introduces the final chart without a clear comparison to the appliance trends. Grouping the appliance series more systematically and using transitions to show similarities and contrasts would strengthen progression and make the relationships between figures easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “drastic increase,” “dramatic lift,” “remained steady,” and “downward trend,” so the main patterns are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, but some choices are imprecise or unnatural: “slight improve,” “highest fluctuations,” and “severe downfall” do not accurately describe the data or fit standard chart-reporting collocations. “Percentage of increase in washing machine” is also awkward. Spelling errors such as “vaccum” and “Susequently” reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional terms such as “rose,” “fluctuated slightly,” and “declined,” and use “ownership” consistently when describing household percentages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually clear. However, some errors in agreement, sentence construction, and verb forms remain. The opening says “The charts below illustrates,” where the plural subject requires “illustrate.” In “washing machine started with 40% in 1920 showed,” the clauses need clearer grammatical connection, such as “started at 40% in 1920 and rose…”. The final sentence also shifts from “started” to “decrease,” which should be “decreased,” and “the number of hours … started with 50%” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern for the measure. More consistent control of clause structure and past-tense reporting would improve accuracy.
