Student answer (Band 6.5)

A number of individuals believe that there is no need to go on theatres to watch movies as they can enjoy it on their cell phones and tabs while others oppose that cinemas provide more joy of watching film. I will explain both the viewpoints along with my opinion in forthcoming paragraphs.

commencing with discussion, there are many reasons of enjoying movies in electronic gadgets. Firstly, convenience. To elaborate it, as some of the people are comfortable to watch movies on their phones as it is very convenient for them. They can enjoy films anytime anywhere in just one click. They can also save money as whole family can see movie without spending any cost on it. For instance, a survey was conducted by Times of India revealed that 60% working people prefers to watch movies on their mobiles while travelling and in their home with friends and family members. Thus, they do not feel to go anywhere specially to enjoy movies.

Moving further to the opposite side, as Cinema provides broader picture and first broadcast of any latest picture. In simple words, as in theatres provide facilities to people to watch latest movies on big screen and first show as it telecast first day in cinema screen which mobile phones do not offer when it release till many months. Moreover, people enjoy the better visual and audio quality. For example, 8 out of 10 young people like to watch movies in theatre on the first day of release in India for better experience. So, it gives them better quality and first experience.

In conclusion although people enjoy films on the gadgets as it provides them facility to watch it anytime and anywhere yet, i also in the favour of enjoying movies in cinemas as it provide better quality and experience on big screen. Sometimes, it also provides opportunity to meet with celebrities who cast in the picture.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as convenience and cost-effectiveness for home viewing, and quality and social experience for cinemas. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about meeting celebrities is a bit tangential and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on simple lists of benefits. Overall, the position is clear throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moving further', and 'In conclusion', which help the flow. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'commencing with discussion' and 'as in theatres provide'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, using terms like 'convenience', 'visual and audio quality', and 'electronic gadgets'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'go on theatres' (should be 'go to cinemas') and 'first broadcast of any latest picture' (should be 'latest releases'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on learning collocations and more academic synonyms will help improve your lexical range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the cinema', 'a survey'), subject-verb agreement ('60% working people prefers'), and sentence fragments ('To elaborate it, as some of the people are comfortable...'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed correctly without unnecessary filler words.
