Student answer (Band 7.0)
As societies continue to evolve, the question of entertainment sources has become increasingly contentious. While some individuals believe that electronic gadgets like phones or laptops are the best way to watch movies more conveniently, others argue that cinemas play a greater role if they want to enjoy films. Although both perspectives have their merits, I am convinced that watching a movie on the big screen gives you unforgettable memories and an experience.
The most compelling argument in favour of seeing films on smartphones or tablets is time flexibility. People can enjoy movies, whether they are travelling or outside the home. There is no boundary of accessibility. Furthermore, whenever individuals feel bored or stressed, they can watch their favourite films or shows with their loved ones, which not only acts as a stressbuster but also assists to make their bond stronger. It can be illustrated by a situation when some people use their smart gadgets to turn their boring journey into fun-loving way.
Another dimension in favour of watching movies on the big screen in the cinemas adds more sparks to everyone's trip. The audio and more visual clarity tend to enhance the level of their experience more realistically. Beyond these practical considerations, people love to spend their spare time with friends and family, which leads to their excitment double. The inevitable outcome is that they can enjoy their movie time while eating, having fun, and feeling refreshed.
In a nutshell, taking all the factors into account, it is evident that watching a movie in cinemas leads to a more enjoyable moment, having a great experience, and making it a more persuasive perspective.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of mobile devices versus the immersive experience of cinemas. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'stressbusting' and 'bonding' is a bit generic and could have been more deeply linked to the specific context of watching films. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and lacks a strong summary of the main points discussed. Overall, the response is well-structured and covers the requirements, but it would benefit from more detailed supporting examples to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'Beyond these practical considerations', and 'In a nutshell', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition into the second body paragraph could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is clear throughout the text, meeting the requirements for a coherent response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some good phrases like 'increasingly contentious', 'compelling argument', and 'practical considerations'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices or phrasing, such as 'adds more sparks to everyone's trip' and 'excitment double'. These do not impede communication, but they show a lack of precision. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, such as 'While some individuals believe that... others argue that...'. However, there are some grammatical errors, such as 'assists to make their bond stronger' (should be 'helps to strengthen their bond') and 'fun-loving way' (which is slightly awkward). Punctuation is generally accurate, and the errors present do not cause difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on refining complex structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage.
