Student answer (Band 7.0)

In the modern era, technological advances has allowed movies to be watched on "hand-held" devices. This change has sparked a debate. Many individuals say that as movies are available on mobile phones they do not have to travel to cinema, while others say that to be able to fully enjoy the movie, it should be seen in cinemas. This essay will address both the views and will portray why watching film in smartphones is better.

On the one hand, watching movies on phones and tablets has numerous benefits. The primary benefit is the convenience of watching movie at any place, time and environment. People do not have to worry about the timing of the show and do not have to travel to the venue when watching a movie, as they can watch the films at their own preference on their smartphones. Moreover, the economics parameters of Online movie platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and many others have allowed them to publish movies at very economical prices. These affordable prices has further influenced people's choice of watching films on mobile phones.

On the other hand, experience of watching movies in cinemas is unbeatable. Movie houses are equipped with powerful sound system, high-definition projectors and very comfortable seating, these high-end arrangements provides very unique and immense viewing experience which people often enjoy. Furthermore, some movies are exclusively released for cinemas only, if people wanted to watch those films they have to watch those in movie theaters.

In my view, watching movies on smartphone is very good as people can watch it on their own convenience, in their favorable environment and at affordable cost. But once in a while people should experience movies in the cinemas.

To conclude, although experience of watching movies in cinemas is unmatched, people naturally gravitate towards Conveniences and lower cost of watching movies on tables and phones. On some case where movies are cinema only individuals should watch them in cinema.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The position is consistent throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention convenience and cost as benefits of mobile viewing, these points could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating points already made rather than synthesising them. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed explanation of why the arguments are significant, rather than just listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'these high-end arrangements' which follows a list of equipment but feels slightly disconnected. The flow between sentences is generally smooth, but increasing the variety of linking words would help the essay read more naturally and improve the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'gravitate', 'unbeatable', and 'exclusively'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'economics parameters' instead of 'economic factors' and 'watching film in smartphones' instead of 'on smartphones'. Additionally, there are some repetitive phrases like 'watching movies'. To improve, try to use more precise collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repetition. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'technological advances has allowed' (subject-verb agreement), 'watching movie' (missing article), and 'these high-end arrangements provides' (subject-verb agreement). There are also minor punctuation issues, such as missing commas in complex sentences. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
