Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, many people prefer to watch movies and TV shows in their phones and tablets rather than going to cinema. On the other hand, some people still believe that watching movies only in cinema is fun.

Watching movies in mobile phones is more convenient because that gives you easy access to watch TV shows of your own choice. Moreover, you can have more controls on your screen as you are not only able to change volume levels but also screen size, subtitles. In addition, it is cheaper than going to theater. Watching movies on tablets and phones is also less time consuming as compared to going out.

However, watching movies in movie theater is also different experience. There are plethora of reasons behind the people always choosing cinemas. Firstly, they can spent some quality time with their friends and family. Secondly, enjoying any friction or drama on big screen with high quality sound system gives you immense amount of thrill and happiness. Lastly, going out to watch movies is one kind of stress relief activity as people are busy with their hectic jobs schedule and same regular routine.

In my opinion, enjoying movies at cinema is more favorable because its provides you overall good experience as well as it is best way to keep the social bonding between your family members and friends. Hence, sometimes it is good to watch tv shows in your mobile but we should not completely avoid going to cinemas as it provides value into experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the convenience of mobile viewing and the immersive experience of the cinema. You clearly state your own opinion in the final paragraph, which is a requirement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention 'convenience' and 'social bonding', these points could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The ideas are relevant, but the explanation remains at a surface level. To improve, try to elaborate on the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments to provide a more comprehensive discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', 'Firstly', and 'Lastly' to link your ideas. While these are functional, the flow between some sentences feels a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be more sophisticated to improve the overall progression of the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the reader follow your line of reasoning easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'convenient', 'immense amount of thrill', and 'hectic jobs schedule'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'friction' (likely meaning 'fiction') and 'its provides' (a grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but the precision is occasionally lacking. To move to a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word choices are contextually accurate, avoiding minor slips that slightly distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'in their phones' (should be 'on'), 'have more controls' (should be 'control'), and 'its provides' (should be 'it provides'). These errors are frequent but do not impede communication. Your control over punctuation is generally good, but you should pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and preposition usage. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will help improve your score in this criterion.
