Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued that watching films on phones and tablets is more convenient and eliminates the need to travel to the cinema, whereas others argue that to experience real thrill of movie one should always prefer cinema and movie house. This essay will discuss both the views before giving my opinion.
On the one hand, Technological advancement makes it easier for everyone to watch any shows and movies on their fingertips. In addition, it saves resources like time and money which can be spent on other important activity. For example, OTT platforms like the Netflix and Amazon Prime always updating their library and releases the same movies and shows for their audience. Lastly but not least, watching shows on digital devices is more convenient way of entertainment.
On the other hand, experiencing the movie or live shows in theater makes real difference compare to watching it digitally. Moreover, it can enhance the experience and excitement towards the show and allows some outing as well at a same time. For example, although people can access their favorite movies and daily soaps on their phones, it lacks the video and audio quality which only can be feel in cinema.
In my opinion, sparing a special time to watch any movies and shows is not possible for everyone which also affects their schedules and resources in the long term. Thus, entertainment from mobile and tables makes more sense in day-to-day life; however, going on weekends to watch movie can be more convenient compare to week days and it also promotes work life balance for working professionals.
To conclude, I believe that using the benefits of technology can be far beneficial than approaching towards old school ways to entertainment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of digital platforms versus the immersive experience of cinemas. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'work-life balance' in the fourth paragraph is introduced but not fully explained or connected back to the main topic of cinema versus home viewing. To reach a higher band, the student should provide more detailed examples and ensure that every point made directly supports the central argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'In addition,' and 'To conclude,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as 'Lastly but not least' (which is also grammatically incorrect). The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the link between the final opinion and the previous body paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally effective, though some sentences could be better connected to improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'technological advancement' and 'work-life balance.' However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and minor errors, such as 'at a same time' instead of 'at the same time' and 'approaching towards old school ways to entertainment.' The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more precision and a wider variety of sophisticated vocabulary would be needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the Netflix' (unnecessary article), 'releases the same movies' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'compare to' instead of 'compared to.' Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and the errors occasionally distract the reader, though they do not impede communication. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammar would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
