Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding home viewing focuses on the negative aspects of cinemas (crowds, disturbance) rather than the inherent benefits of home technology, such as cost-effectiveness or convenience. The introduction is slightly disjointed, and the overall structure could be more balanced. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more specific examples and a deeper exploration of the 'why' behind your opinions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'Results in, better understanding', which lacks a clear subject. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used with grammatical precision will enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. You attempt to use some less common phrases like 'cup of tea' and 'unmatched', though some word choices are slightly unnatural or inaccurate, such as 'capitative' (likely meaning 'captivating') and 'story lyrics' (likely meaning 'plot' or 'narrative'). There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'creates strong band' instead of 'creates a strong bond'. To improve, focus on learning collocations and ensuring that the words you choose fit the formal context of an IELTS essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('Many people does not follow') and article usage ('the theater's'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the unnecessary use of apostrophes in plurals like 'theater's' and 'loved one's'. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors will significantly improve your score.
