Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction. The ideas are relevant, discussing convenience for home viewing and the immersive atmosphere of cinemas. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are presented but could be expanded with more depth or specific examples. The conclusion is missing, which is a significant omission for a discursive essay. Despite this, the position remains clear throughout the text, and the main points are adequately covered to meet the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In addition', though some are used mechanically or with punctuation errors. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'this' at the start of sentences without a clear antecedent. The lack of a concluding paragraph negatively impacts the overall coherence, as the essay ends abruptly. Paragraphing is present but the internal flow within paragraphs could be improved with more varied linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'technological advancement', 'immersive', and 'social activity'. However, there are several word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'smarts phones', 'appreaciated', 'advices' (used instead of 'devices'), and 'mordern tables' (likely meaning 'tablets'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the range and precision of the language. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on accurate word formation and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include missing articles, incorrect verb forms ('cinemas is provide'), and punctuation errors, particularly with comma placement and sentence fragments. For example, 'Nowadays, technological advancement , people can watch...' lacks a proper grammatical connection. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevents the text from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent sentence construction.
