Student answer (Band 7.0)

Cinema industry went through number of technological changes in the past two decades. With the invention of OTT platforms, many people argue that there is no need to go to theatre to watch a movie because one can simple see it on his/her mobile devices or laptops. However, some people argue against this thinking. In the upcoming paragraphs, I'll explain both these opinions and state my thought on this matter at last.

To begin with people in favour of portable devices, there are many reasons for it. First one is the cost. This type of entertainment is much more affordable for many people who cannot afford expensive cinema tickets. By purchasing OTT platform subscription, they can watch many movies in a month than seeing only one movie by spending a lot more money in cinema. In addition to this, by using cell phone or tablet, people enjoy entertainment anytime and anywhere. This method is much more convenient as compared to go to a particular cinema which might involve time and transportation cost.

However, people in favour of cinema, also have their valid points. First of all, watching a movie in cinema on a bigger resolution is much more exciting than seeing it on a small device's screen. The sound effects, thrilling environment and quality of any movie can only be enjoyed in a big cinema hall. Apart from this, many producers prefer their films to be shown in cinema rather than OTT because it is a better way to recover the greater cost of production. Also cinema industry provides many jobs to number of people and Cinema is a source of employment for them.

At last, in my opinion, it should be a person's own decision whether to go to a theatre or to watch movie on a mobile device. The most important thing is that people needs entertainment and how to get that , it relies on them

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, while you mention cost and convenience for portable devices, and atmosphere and production costs for cinemas, these points could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. Your position is stated in the introduction and conclusion, but the conclusion is quite brief and lacks a summary of the main arguments presented. To improve, ensure that your personal opinion is more clearly integrated throughout the essay rather than just appearing at the end.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition to this', and 'However' to guide the reader. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is mostly accurate, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive links. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints, which helps the overall readability of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'technological changes', 'portable devices', and 'source of employment'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'seeing it on a small device's screen' (better: 'viewing it on a small screen') and 'go to a particular cinema' (better: 'travel to a cinema'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the overall range is somewhat limited. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Cinema industry went through number of' (missing articles: 'The cinema industry went through a number of') and 'people needs entertainment' (subject-verb agreement error: 'people need'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are occasional slips. The majority of your sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Focus on proofreading for articles and subject-verb agreement to improve your accuracy.
