Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, the discussion relating to movies has become a hot topic. Many individuals feel that films should be watched in a theater, whereas others think that it is enough to watch in the cell phones or any other device. This essay will discuss the both sides.

There are many advantages to watch movies in our devices. To start with, we can watch in our convenience. For example, earlier it will take months to release the films in smaller screen, but it is not the case after the introduction of over-the-top media such as Netflix, Disney plus and amazon prime video. This help us to watch the very new release within days in our phones or tablet. So we can decide when, where and how to watch without missing it. Furthermore, the newly built houses have mini theatre with all the facilities including high quality speakers. The person who see the film there will get the same experience as a cinema.

On the other hand, there are some benefits to watch movies in cinema. Firstly, nowadays films are designed with specific format. For instance, the third installment of avatar is made in a high end projection to capture minor details. This will only available in the theatres who is using high frame rate. Secondly, there is special feeling when we watch a film inside a crowded theater and it will release only one time. The enjoyment when we see our favorite person in the screen gives us a goosebumps and excitement.

To conclude, viewing films in our own devices gives flexibility and comfortability while watching the movies in its original format with a lot of people is more fun. We can always see the movies in small devices but watching it in a big screen is most probably a one time opportunity, so in my opinion always watch it in theatre.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of streaming services versus the technical superiority of cinema projection. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'mini theatres' in homes is a bit underdeveloped, and the argument regarding the 'third installment of avatar' could be more precisely linked to the overall discussion of cinematic experience. The position is consistent throughout, but the essay would benefit from more depth in the supporting arguments to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the sentence 'The person who see the film there will get the same experience' lacks a clear connection to the previous sentence. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the logical links between sentences could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'over-the-top media' and 'high frame rate'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'watch in our convenience' (should be 'at our convenience') and 'comfortability' (which is less standard than 'comfort'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of more precise, academic vocabulary prevents a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage. Examples include 'The person who see the film' (should be 'sees'), 'This will only available' (should be 'will only be available'), and 'in the screen' (should be 'on the screen'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic verb forms and prepositions to increase the number of error-free sentences.
