Student answer (Band 6.0)

Entertainment plays a major role in everyone's life. People often spend money to take a break from their busy and high-paced lifestyle and to relax their minds. Movies are one of those activities and people enjoy watching film with their loved ones. Individuals think that it is a good option to see both new and old movies on their own devices such as mobile phones and laptops. However, others believe that they experience actual thrill and excitement when they go to cinema halls and watch movie. This essay will examine both opinions before presenting my viewpoint.

On the one hand, youngsters have access to latest technology. Therefore, they prefer to use it to watch film at their own place with privacy. Moreover, it seems to be an affordable option for those who have a limited financial resources for example, students, interns and part-time employees. Additionally, several individuals who have an introverted personality, hence they are not comfortable to go out frequently.

On the other hand, Extroverted people enjoy going with friends as they can spend quality time with their peers, and release their stress. Furthermore, Critics say that the immersive experience the big screen gives is not possible to get through small screens.

In my opinion, I enjoy both ways, but I prefer to use modern applications such as Netflix, Apna Tv and Amazon prime to watch movies in my room after a hectic work schedule.

In conclusion, although use of tablets and cell phones to see movies is cost effective, but people must go to theaters to get big-screen experience when they can comfortably afford.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention reasons for watching movies at home (privacy, affordability) and at the cinema (socializing, immersive experience), these points are not fully extended with detailed examples or deeper analysis. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a concrete example or a more thorough explanation of why these factors matter, rather than just listing them. Your position is clear, but the depth of the discussion needs to be more consistent throughout the essay to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Moreover,' and 'In conclusion' to link your points. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'hence they are not comfortable' in the second paragraph, which creates a grammatical error within the cohesive structure. Additionally, the referencing in the third paragraph ('Critics say...') is a bit vague. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the relationship between sentences is always smooth and grammatically sound.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'immersive experience,' 'hectic work schedule,' and 'introverted personality.' However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'watch film' (should be 'watch films') and 'go to cinema halls' (usually just 'go to the cinema'). There is also a slight repetition of basic vocabulary. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid minor errors in pluralization and article usage. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific synonyms will also help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder the flow. For example, 'several individuals who have an introverted personality, hence they are not comfortable' is a run-on/fragmented structure. There are also issues with articles ('the' cinema, 'a' big-screen experience) and subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on mastering the use of relative clauses and conjunctions without creating run-on sentences. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
