Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely acknowledged that people in today's world say that we can watch movies on phones or other digital devices so there is no need to go to the cinema. While others argue that to be fully enjoyed, films need to be seen in a cinema. This essay will discuss both views before discussing why I believe that watching films on our digital devices can be more comfortable for individuals.

To begin with, there are numerous advantages of watching films on our phones such as privacy, saves money and time. One significant advantage is it saves large amount of time by providing convenient options of watching films. For example, people who face lack of time due to their hectic work and managing household chores they unable to manage time for entertainment. To avoid this problem they can use phones as a entertainment source in their convienent time. Another reason is it is cheaper than cinema. This is because it is go to option for people. For instance, some people cannot afford going to cinemas so they prefer phones for watching films in affordable prices.

On the other hand, some people believe that for the proper enjoyment movies should be seen in cinema. This is because it provides peaceful environment away from hectic schedule which makes individuals to enjoy the performance. For example, people who are stressed with their life need to give self-care to avoid depression. So they watch movies in cinema to enjoy their personal time.

However, from my perspective watching on our own devices can be more beneficial and provide various options to enjoy.

In conclusion, Phones or digital devices plays a significant role in the individuals entertainment or watching films in their convienent space and time. Whereas, seeing it at cinema has some advantages such as peaceful environment with arranged setup to enjoy accordingly. I believe that digital platforms can provide numerous benefits for the films.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed both sides of the argument and provided a clear personal opinion. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, your point about 'privacy' is mentioned but not explained, and your argument regarding the cinema as a form of 'self-care' to 'avoid depression' is a bit tangential and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more specific, logical reasoning rather than just stating the advantage. Your position is clear throughout, but the conclusion could have better synthesised the main points rather than simply restating them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. There are also instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the benefits of phones and the specific example of time management. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, using terms like 'hectic work', 'digital devices', and 'entertainment source'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'it is go to option' and 'in affordable prices'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'convienent' (convenient). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your collocations are natural. You rely on some basic phrasing that limits your ability to express more nuanced ideas effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'they unable to manage' (missing verb 'are'), 'Phones or digital devices plays' (subject-verb agreement), and 'watching on our own devices' (missing object). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction. To achieve a higher band, focus on correcting basic subject-verb agreement errors and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing auxiliary verbs or prepositions.
