Student answer (Band 6.5)
With the advent and prevalent use of technology, many people prefer watching movies on their electronic devices rather than visiting a theatre. Others believe that to completely enjoy any film, going to a cinema is considerably better than watching it at home. In my opinion, motion pictures are meant to be seen at theatres in order to fully appreciate the art of filmmaking.
As numerous one-time subscription platforms are emerging, people often choose watching various movies on their hand-held gadgets, from the comfort of their homes. This gives them the freedom to pick from a variety of movie genres and watch the movie on their terms. In addition to this, such platforms are cost effective as one subscription is active annually, giving people the chance to watch the latest releases all year long.
On the other hand, some people argue that films should be watched in cinemas to get the entire immersive experience. They think that large scale production movies create real life experience when seen on enormous screens with best quality speakers in the hall. For example, a recent film called Odyssey, was filmed using the best-in-class IMAX cameras and for watching this movie you will need to visit a theatre for catching all the vivid and exceptional scenes.
To conclude, watching movies on phones might provide people the ease of use. Hence, anyone can use electronic platforms if they would have missed any film. Nevertheless, I would most definitely recommend everyone to watch films in a cinema to enjoy the art of filmmaking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of streaming platforms versus the immersive quality of cinema. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument regarding cinema could be further extended by discussing the social aspect of movie-going. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, and the final sentence could have been more effectively integrated. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the two viewpoints is handled well using 'On the other hand'. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to this', 'For example', and 'Nevertheless' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow could be slightly improved by using more varied cohesive markers to avoid a somewhat mechanical structure. Overall, the text is easy to follow and demonstrates a good level of coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You have used some good collocations like 'immersive experience', 'best-in-class', and 'vivid and exceptional scenes'. There are a few instances where word choice could be more precise, such as 'ease of use' or 'electronic platforms'. While the range is adequate, there is limited use of less common or idiomatic vocabulary that would be required for a higher band score. The spelling is accurate throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You demonstrate control over grammar, with most sentences being error-free. There are minor slips, such as 'choose watching' (should be 'choose to watch') and 'if they would have missed' (should be 'if they have missed'). Punctuation is generally correct, though some sentences could be refined for better flow. The grammatical control is consistent, and the errors present do not impede communication or cause confusion for the reader.
