Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of streaming services versus the immersive experience of a cinema. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding Christopher Nolan is a good attempt at support, but the explanation of why the cinema experience is superior could be more detailed. The position is consistent throughout, but the overall depth of the argument is more characteristic of a Band 6, as some points are stated rather than fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, there is some mechanical use of these devices, and some transitions are slightly awkward, such as 'by effortlessly' or 'Whereas, other people.' Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved to make the progression of ideas feel more natural and less like a list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are several spelling errors ('gedgets', 'theator', 'prefrence', 'mostion', 'quaility') and word choice issues ('humans' instead of 'people', 'theator' instead of 'theatre'). While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'visual effect' and 'streaming platforms,' the overall lexical control is limited. The errors do not prevent communication, but they do indicate a need for a more varied and accurate vocabulary to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('the theator'), subject-verb agreement ('platform... is cheaper'), and preposition usage ('travel for watching movie'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma placement. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and impacts the overall fluency of the writing. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
