Student answer (Band 6.5)

A few individuals believe that movies can be seen on personal phones instead of going to theatres where as others think that to get the real experience, it is good watch them on big screen. In my opinion, although it is convenient to watch movies on personal devices, It is better to go to theatres to get the actual experience of a movie.

These days people are preferring to watch films on their own devices as it is cheap and easily accessible option. Booking tickets and travelling to theatre is a difficult task for many people as they are busy with their jobs. Moreover, It is expensive to take a whole family to theatre to watch a movie. For example, a recent survey conducted in UK states that more than 75% of employees are choosing to watch movies at home on personal devices with their families instead of going to a theatre.

On the other side, many individuals think that the actual feel of watching a movies comes only in theatres. Actually, movies are made to watch in auditoriums. The Quality and the sound effects of the film varies a lot from small screen to large screen. In addition to that, the true emotion of the story and characters performance can only be felt in theatres which makes audience to involve completely into the movie. For instance, one movie from Hollywood was huge success in one country where it was released in theatres but it did not get the attention of people in other country where it was released in online platform.

In conclusion, even though it is affordable and convenient to watch a movie on personal device, true essence of movie can only be felt when it was seen on big screen.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of home viewing versus the immersive experience of the cinema. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the example regarding the Hollywood movie is vague and lacks specific detail to fully support the argument. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more nuanced explanations or concrete, well-explained examples. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes your stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the other side', and 'In addition to that' to link sentences and paragraphs. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the sentence 'which makes audience to involve completely into the movie', which is slightly awkward. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'accessible', 'auditoriums', and 'true essence'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'makes audience to involve completely' (should be 'allows the audience to become completely immersed') and 'released in online platform' (should be 'released on an online platform'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Expanding your range of collocations would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('to theatre', 'in UK') and verb forms ('it is good watch them', 'makes audience to involve'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some inconsistencies with capitalization (e.g., 'It is better'). The frequency of these errors does not impede communication, but they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
