Student answer (Band 6.0)

Today, many people watch movie from various electronic device such as phone or tablet whereas some people believe in watching movies in theatre for better experience. In my opinion, phones are convenient, but watching movie in cinemas gives much better experience.

On one hand, watching films on phone or tablet is easy and convenient. People can watch at their own time and place without having to worry about particular shows and times. You do need to buy expensive tickets or drive to cinemas in order to watch a movie. Also, phone screens today have a good resolution screens and better sound quality for efficient viewing at our own pace.

On the other hand, watching movies in cinemas have breath taking experiences especially in a 3-D movie. The huge screen and powerful speakers make you feel like you are diving inside the movie, especially in action films. Also, going to theatre is a fun activity to enjoy with our near and dear ones. Having experience those things and laughing together with big audience creates pleasant environment to watch movies and creating memories.

To conclude, phones as well as tablets are very great and efficient mode of electronic devices to watch films anytime we want. However, I believe in watching movies at theatre to have best experience to enjoy a movie fully.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat brief and lack the detailed supporting examples or extended analysis required for a higher band score. The conclusion is present but brief. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with more specific examples or personal anecdotes to meet the length requirement and fully explore the implications of each viewpoint.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to signal the transition between ideas. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The progression of ideas is clear, but the limited length prevents a more sophisticated development of the argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'breath taking' and 'efficient viewing', though some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'efficient mode of electronic devices'. There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'movie' instead of 'movies' in the first sentence. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and idiomatic expressions related to the topic of entertainment and technology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'watch movie from various electronic device' (should be 'movies' and 'devices') and 'Having experience those things' (should be 'Having experienced'). Subject-verb agreement and pluralization are inconsistent throughout the text. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure variety will be beneficial.
