Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that we should not go to the cinema for movies because of phones. While others argue the opposite. I will discuss both views in the following paragraphs.
On the one hand, if people can watch any movie on their phones, then why should they spend money on the cinema? It is a waste of money because if people can watch any films at their preferred time, they will avoid going to the cinema. In addition, going to the cinema is more expensive than watching a movie at home. As a result, we do not need to go to the cinema for movies. For example, I used to prefer watching movies in the cinema before I had a phone. Hence, it would not be wrong to say that people are avoiding going to the cinema because of phones.
On the other hand, we can have limited enjoyment at home. To elaborate on it, going to the cinema has more enjoyment than seeing movie at home because we have good sound effects and more people in the cinema, which makes it pleasant. Watching movies on phones is very tedious. For example, a study published by the Times of India reveals that 70% of people choose the cinema for watching movie. So, if you want more fun, you should go to the cinema.
In conclusion, although people like to watch films on their phones because they can save money and for convenient times, we need to go to the cinema for more enjoyment. In my opinion, watching movies in the cinema is best.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the convenience of phones is repetitive, and the point about the cinema experience relies on general statements rather than deep analysis. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or specific examples. While the prompt is addressed, the ideas remain at a surface level, which limits the depth of the discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In addition' to link your thoughts. However, the flow between some sentences feels a bit mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the transition between the convenience of phones and the cost argument could be smoother. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the range of cohesive devices is somewhat limited.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple, repetitive words like 'good', 'fun', and 'movies'. While your meaning is always clear, there is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated vocabulary that would demonstrate a higher level of lexical control. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to film and entertainment, such as 'cinematic experience', 'immersive environment', or 'technological advancements'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you demonstrate control over basic grammar, there are frequent minor errors, such as 'seeing movie at home' (missing an article) and 'for convenient times' (awkward phrasing). Complex sentences are attempted, but they often lack the precision required for a higher band. Punctuation is generally correct, but the overall range of grammatical structures is somewhat restricted. Focusing on sentence variety and ensuring articles and prepositions are used correctly will help improve your score.
