IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that now we can see films on our phones or tablets there is no need to go to the cinema. Others say that to be fully enjoyed, films need to be seen in a cinema.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The widespread availability of smartphone changed whole scenario in 21st century. Some folks like to watch movies on smartphones leading to argue cinema is unnecessary. Others, however, believe that cinema is ideal setting for appreciating a film.

On the one hand, watching a film on smartphones or tablets having several advantages. The most obvious is not to go to cinema itself, you can enjoy movies and web series on your bed, it saves time for the travelling and unwanted hustle. Moreover, streaming platforms provides number of movies at reasonable cost. This is particularly benefit for viewers who have busy schedule. For example, university students can watch knowledgeable documentaries, films and web series on their tablets or phones. Therefore, personal devices have made movies considerably more accessible and flexible.

On the other hand, watching movies in cinema offers much more immersive experience. Cinema are specifically designed to maximize the impact of visual and auditory elements though the large screens. More importantly, all these elements are distracted that are common at home such as smartphones, televisions and tablets. The views just want to watch movie anyhow. For instance, movies like visually spectacular such as Spiderman home coming can enhance the visual and sound experience only in cinemas which cannot be experienced on smartphones. Consequently, smartphones can eliminate the use of cinemas but can't reproduce the atmosphere and scale of cinema.

In conclusion, smartphones and tablets have made watching movies cheaper and convenient, which explains most people prefer it. Nevertheless, we can't deny the impact cinema screen leaves on us. The visual effects and sound enhance the impact of the movie which can be experienced in the cinema.
