Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some individuals argue that movies can be viewed on the smart phones or tablets instead of visiting a cinema. While, others stated films can be more enjoyable when watched in cinemas. I partly believed in this viewpoint, because social media platforms and cinemas both offer different experiences of movies.
On the one hand, phones and tablets offer the convenience of watching movies anywhere and any time. For example, one can watch a movie, while commuting from one place to another according to their convenient time. Moreover, watching movies on a streaming platform on their smart phones offers cheaper prices than buying tickets for every movie. It is considered more budget friendly. For instance, Netflix, one can purchase monthly subscription which gives them the access of unlimited movies or web series.
On the other hand, the cinemas offer better view of the film because of its sound and visuals effects on the big screen. Furthermore, cinemas hind all the obstruction during the movie time, which helps to enjoy more and experience real-time movies. For example, people can enjoy the movie in a higher extend in the cinema rather than watching it on the train. Because while travelling one have to keep an eye on their route or their surroundings more than inside the cinemas.
In my opinion, smart phones or tablets offer entertainment at a wider spectrum of convenience. However, cinemas offer better and enjoyable moments in the movies. It is totally dependent on the person’s time, location, and convenience that where they want to enjoy more.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of mobile devices versus the immersive experience of cinemas. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'cinemas hind all the obstruction' is slightly unclear and could have been expanded with more specific examples of the sensory experience. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have better synthesised the main arguments to provide a more robust final stance. Overall, the task is addressed, but the depth of analysis remains at a functional level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel a bit abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the idea of 'obstruction' and the 'real-time' experience in the third paragraph is slightly confusing. Overall, the structure is coherent and supports the progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'streaming platform', 'subscription', and 'visuals effects'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'cinemas hind all the obstruction' (likely meaning 'hinder' or 'eliminate distractions') and 'enjoy the movie in a higher extend' (should be 'to a greater extent'). While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score as the range is not sufficiently flexible or precise for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I partly believed' (should be 'believe'), 'one have to keep' (should be 'one has to keep'), and 'smart phones' (often written as one word). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'in the cinemas' versus 'at the cinema'. These errors occur frequently but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended message. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would improve the score.
