Student answer (Band 6.0)

This topic of watching a movie in the cinema or on an OTT platform at home is a debatable and disputable issue in today's contemporary world.

Here, I will try to discuss both views and justify my stance with some valid examples.

On the one hand, there is a group of people who argue for watching movies in theatres; they are of the opinion that watching movies in theaters comes with a great experience and the actual vibe of enjoying a movie. Furthermore, it's a kind of small outing with your family and friends. Theaters offer the option to buy and have some snacks, for instance, popcorn, ice cream, cold drinks, and other eateries.

Moreover, theaters also have the option to watch movies with specialised lenses, which gives a live experience of the ongoing event.

On the other hand, there is an army of people who believe that watching a movie on an OTT platform at home comes with a lot of privacy and many other benefits. Firstly, there is no fixed schedule to watch; you are independent of any kind of schedule. Secondly, you can enjoy quality time while watching a movie with your loved one.

you also save time by avoiding traffic jams and unwanted advertisements and breaks.

To conclude with some analysis, theaters come with great benefits For instance, much better sound systems, big screens, comfortable and cozy seating, and a group of excited people. where as movie at home comes with quality time, privacy, and is less time-consuming. In my opinion, the whole situation depends on the person and how they actually want to spent there time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'specialised lenses' in cinemas is vague and lacks clear explanation. The arguments for home viewing are also quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed examples or logical reasoning. While the prompt is addressed, the depth of discussion is more characteristic of a Band 6, as some ideas are presented as lists rather than fully explored arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'Firstly' to guide the reader. However, the transition between the final body paragraph and the conclusion is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are short and choppy, which affects the flow. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., avoiding the repetition of 'theaters') and using a wider variety of linking words would help create a more seamless progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary world', 'OTT platform', and 'time-consuming'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'specialised lenses' (likely referring to IMAX or 3D technology) and 'eateries' (which usually refers to restaurants rather than cinema snacks). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. You should focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'how they actually want to spent there time' (should be 'spend their time') and 'where as movie at home' (missing an article and incorrect punctuation). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of capital letters after full stops and the placement of commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should proofread your work to ensure subject-verb agreement and correct word forms.
