Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is quite limited and repetitive. For instance, the arguments for watching films at home focus primarily on comfort and cost, while the cinema arguments focus on screen size and social aspects. These points are not fully extended or supported with sophisticated reasoning. The structure is somewhat informal, resembling a list of points rather than a cohesive essay. To improve, you should aim to provide more depth to your arguments, perhaps by discussing the immersive experience of a cinema versus the convenience of digital platforms in greater detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is very basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'Now we will discuss' and 'First we will discuss' are mechanical and do not create a natural flow between ideas. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect sentences and paragraphs. The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, and the transition between the discussion of the two views and your personal opinion could be smoother. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite limited and repetitive, often relying on basic words like 'stuff', 'things', and 'good'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'mental satisfaction' or 'mental peace' in contexts where they do not fit naturally. Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'acter' instead of 'actor'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher band scores. You should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to media, entertainment, and technology to express your ideas with more precision and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'they no need', 'he like big screen'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments. The range of grammatical structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There are very few attempts at complex sentences, and when they are attempted, they often contain errors that make the meaning slightly unclear. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
