Student answer (Band 7.0)
While some argue that as movies can be viewed on digital devices so movie theatres are unnecessary, others contend that they are imperative to cherish the movies to full extent. I believe both views are justified, although technology has equipped watching films at our own leisure time, cinema gives an opportunity to acknowledge the art at superior level.
Firstly, the supporters of cinema argue that it provides better sound and sight which presents the true art. This is because the huge screen and powerful speakers allow us to view the movie as the director wanted us to see. Secondly, there are no distractions which means that we can watch the movie from start to end without any interruption of phones or pausing. Lastly, going out to see the movie is itself an outing for the family, along with laughing and crying with a large crowd make the emotions feel bigger.
On the contrary, the critics contend that watching movies at home provides complete control. It means that viewers can pause, rewind or adjust the volume as per their need. Moreover, it is way more convenient than going to theatres as one can avoid driving, traffic and parking. Furthermore, there are financial benefits, since one does not need to spend money on tickets and outside food if they are watching movies at home.
To sum up, although visiting movie theatres provides a riveting experience to the viewers, the comfort and control they get if they watch the same at home cannot be overlooked. Therefore, in my opinion, both views are justified depending on the occasion and individual needs of the viewers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, such as the comparison between the immersive cinema experience and the convenience of home viewing. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the development of ideas could be slightly more nuanced; for example, the argument regarding 'financial benefits' could be expanded with a specific example to further strengthen the support for the home-viewing perspective. Overall, the task is well-handled.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the contrary', and 'To sum up' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more sophisticated. For instance, the link between the two body paragraphs could be smoother to create a more cohesive flow between the opposing viewpoints. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for some flexibility. The student uses appropriate terms like 'imperative', 'riveting', and 'convenient'. There are some minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'cherish the movies to full extent' (should be 'to the fullest extent') and 'acknowledge the art at superior level' (should be 'at a superior level'). While the range is adequate, the use of less common lexical items is somewhat limited. Incorporating more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions would elevate the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, which is positive. However, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'technology has equipped watching films' (should be 'technology has enabled us to watch films') and 'laughing and crying with a large crowd make the emotions feel bigger' (subject-verb agreement error: 'makes'). Punctuation is generally accurate, but the sentence structure could be more varied to demonstrate greater control over complex forms. The errors present do not impede communication.
