Student answer (Band 5.5)

According to some our mobile phones and tablets are the best sources to a movie, while other people thinks that movie is better watched at the cinema. Some people like to go out very often so they watch movie at the cinema whereas some people don't go out often so they prefer watching it on their phones. I would say when a new movie comes it should be watched at the cinema and if you are watching a old movie its better to watch at your mobile.

Watching movies on personal devices gives people a comfortable environment, where they can just lay down or do their work while they watch the movie. For example- some of the housewives are always busy in their kids and the daily chores and they have no time to spare to go and watch a movie so watching it on a mobile gives them a chance.

Some people have lots of time to go out and they enjoy being out, those are the people who watches the movies at the cinema.

According to me when a new movie comes it should be only watched at the cinema, it gives the excitement because everyone in the theater are for the same film. But if you are watching a old film or a film that you have already watched it should be watched on a mobile or tablet.

In conclusion, I would say watching a movie on a mobile or tablets gives you a comfortable environment while watching at a cinema is more movie centric environment. In my opinion a new movie should be watched at a cinema.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views regarding cinema versus home viewing and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The arguments provided, such as the mention of 'housewives' or the distinction between new and old films, are relevant but lack depth and supporting evidence. The response tends to over-generalize, and the explanation of why the cinema experience is superior is not fully explored beyond the mention of 'excitement'. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the psychological or social benefits of the cinema experience versus the convenience of home technology with more detailed reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes repetitive. For instance, the transition between ideas often relies on simple phrases like 'some people' or 'according to me'. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect sentences and arguments smoothly. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of referencing and substitution to avoid repeating the same nouns and structures throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'watch', 'movie', and 'people'. There is little attempt to use less common or topic-specific vocabulary that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. Phrases like 'movie centric environment' are a good attempt at more precise language, but overall, the range is restricted. To improve, focus on using synonyms and more academic collocations related to entertainment, technology, and social habits to convey your ideas with greater precision and variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'other people thinks', 'everyone in the theater are'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'sources to a movie'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that prepositions and articles are used correctly in your sentences.
