Student answer (Band 5.5)

Entertainment industry has grown immensely for the past ten years. It is observed that few individuals watch movies on electronic gadgets rather than going to the theatres while some prefers watching a movie in the cinemas in order to satisfy their comfort and joy. However, I personally believe that both aspect shares a equal interests.

Cinema houses saw a downfall during the pandemic, therefore it was the time when watching movies or web series were widely accepted on the Online platforms such as Netflix, Amazon and many more. It was the time when people were introduced to binge watch a movie without getting out of their comfort zone. Thus, it helped the introvert people and even individuals with busy lifestyles to watch the movie wherever that want, all they require were phones or tablets.

Socially active people may dislike the idea of sitting home and watching a movie while they can dress up and show up at the theatre to watch a movie. Moreover, people admire the environment they are offered when watching a film. Although, they have to travel to reach the theatre but the level of joy it brings on people is undeniable. Furthermore, individuals suggest that to feel fully enjoyed, movies must be seen in the theatres. Hence, there are movies which gives 3D access and you cannot experience that while sitting at home and seeing the exact same thing on cellphones or laptops.

In my opinion, it depends on the situation and likes of the individuals and people may prefer watching it at home when they are travelling abroad or sick at home. While the others want to feel the depth of the movies and this is approachable when individual goes to the theatre to watch films.

To recapitulate, it depends on various factors such as likes or dislikes of people. However, it should not ignore the fact that people enjoy watching films no matter where they are watching and it sometimes depend on the situation in terms of deciding in where to watch the movie.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed both sides of the argument and provided a personal opinion, which satisfies the requirements of the prompt. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the pandemic and 3D technology, these points are not fully explored to explain why the cinema experience is uniquely superior or why home viewing is a viable alternative. Your position is present but could be more clearly articulated throughout the essay. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a deeper analysis of the 'why' behind your points rather than just listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'To recapitulate' to link your thoughts. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is a bit disjointed, such as the transition between the pandemic context and the mention of introverts. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'they', 'this') is always precise will help your writing flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas clearly, using terms like 'downfall', 'undeniable', and 'recapitulate'. However, there are some issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'satisfy their comfort and joy' or 'gives 3D access', which sound slightly unnatural. You also repeat certain words like 'movies' and 'individuals' frequently. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and to demonstrate a more sophisticated control of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('both aspect shares a equal interests' should be 'both aspects share equal interests') and incorrect verb forms ('all they require were phones' should be 'all they require are phones'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency, and try to incorporate more varied complex structures with greater accuracy.
