Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undoubtable that entertainment plays a significant role in this modern era. Some people believe that phones or tablets are beneficial to watch movies rather than going to cinema while other halves think that to enjoy movies, it must be seen in cinemas.

On the one side, majority of people like to watch movies and series on their smart gadgets such as smartphones, tablets and laptop that are convenient and allows to watch any films in leisure time. Additionally, this process is cost-effective as this saves money as sometimes it free or access with minimal amount along with no travelling expenses. For instance, platforms like Netflix and Amazon primes gives a variety of items to watch as per your preferences along with notification system to provide latest updates. Similarly, these platforms allows to play and pause the series whenever appropriate.

On the other hand, some people believe that going to cinemas has always been beneficial as it provides real experience. Due to better sound, bigger screen and picture quality, helps customers to focus on the story-line with depth. For example, 3D and 4D experience gives you an access to connect deeply and enhance user experience. When the scenes are related to water or air, seats automatically pour water or increase the air flow to feel the scene in reality.

From my perspective, although the phones or tablets to watch movies are quite cheaper but cinemas always helps to connect the movie with audience appropriately. Similarly, watching movies on bigger screen helps to stay focused and enjoy the thriller movies specially.

To conclude, cinemas are expensive as compared to watching in smart gadgets but the experience which cinemas provide is always better than mobile phones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of streaming services versus the immersive experience of cinemas. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the discussion on cinema technology (3D/4D) is descriptive but could be more analytical regarding why this justifies the cost. The position is consistent throughout, but the conclusion is brief and lacks a summary of the main arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more nuanced reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one side', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and flow. For example, the phrase 'other halves' in the introduction is an unnatural way to refer to the opposing group. Furthermore, the connection between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'cost-effective', 'thriller', and 'immersive' (implied). However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'other halves' instead of 'others' or 'the other side', and 'items' to describe movies on Netflix, which is imprecise. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more precise and sophisticated vocabulary would be needed for a higher band score. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage. For example, 'phones or tablets are beneficial to watch' should be 'watching movies on phones or tablets is beneficial', and 'platforms like Netflix... gives' should be 'give'. There are also issues with pluralization and missing prepositions, such as 'access with minimal amount'. Despite these errors, the complexity of the sentences is sufficient to demonstrate a reasonable range, and the errors do not impede communication.
