Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 138 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed. While the essay attempts to discuss both views, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient detail or examples to support the points made. The conclusion is entirely missing, and the final sentence is incomplete. Because the response is significantly under-length and lacks a clear, extended discussion of the prompt, it does not meet the criteria for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', but the progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of development and the abrupt ending. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete and lacks a concluding thought. The logical flow is interrupted by the unfinished nature of the text, making it difficult to follow a coherent argument throughout the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'time saving technique' and 'online platform' are functional but basic. There are some errors in word choice, such as 'watching to visit a cinema' and 'everyone having a busy schedule', which lacks a verb. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands, as the student relies on simple, everyday language to convey ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in a phone'), incorrect verb forms ('everyone having'), and punctuation issues (e.g., 'While , many people'). Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence construction. The incomplete final sentence further demonstrates a lack of control over sentence structure. These errors are frequent and occasionally impede the clarity of the message.
