Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that people can watch movies on their digital devices such as tablets, and phones, there is no use going to the cinema to view movies. However, some people believe that to properly enjoy the films it is preferred to go to the theatre. In my opinion, watching in the cinema is much better owing to the screen and the quality sound which makes the whole experience enjoyable.

On the one hand, watching movies on digital devices has its own benefits. The one major reason is that it saves time and money. People with busy lifestyles can stream the film at any time of the day as per their own schedule. They do not have to make time according to the theatre schedule. Additionally, individuals save money because they would not have to spend money on movie tickets, and the refreshments.Furthermore, movie scenes or songs can be skipped as per the people's choice. Since watching movies on the phone allows the viewers to forward the parts of films which they do not prefer to see.

On the other hand, seeing movies in theatres provides the audience with different experiences due to high quality sound, and big screen. The experience of viewing pictures in the cinema is totally different in comparison to tablets, phones as the screen is large and the sound quality is better. Therefore, the movie can be enjoyed properly without any distractions. Moreover, watching films in the cinema is a way to spend quality time with family and friends. This is because families can watch movies together and later on go to a restaurant to spend time with each other

In conclusion, although watching movies on the phone is convenient and saves time by not going to the theatre, seeing movie in theatre provides a total different view and can be planned as family outing day. In my opinion, watching pictures in the cinema is better because movies can be watched properly, and memories can be created with loved ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt. You have discussed both views and provided a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of digital devices versus the immersive experience of the cinema. However, some points could be developed further; for instance, the argument about 'skipping scenes' is a bit brief. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point is fully supported with a specific example or a more detailed explanation of why that factor matters to the viewer. Overall, the position is consistent and the task requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with punctuation, such as the missing space after the period in 'refreshments.Furthermore'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words rather than relying on simple additive connectors. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'digital devices', 'stream', 'immersive', and 'convenient'. There are some repetitive word choices, such as 'money' and 'spend', which could be varied. You also use 'pictures' to refer to films, which is slightly informal or dated in this context. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, there is a lack of less common or more sophisticated collocations that would elevate the essay to a higher band. Focus on using more precise academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'there is no use going' is slightly unnatural; 'there is no need to go' would be better. You also have some issues with articles, such as 'seeing movie in theatre' (should be 'seeing a movie in a theatre'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with comma placement and spacing. The majority of your sentences are error-free, but you need more variety in complex structures to demonstrate higher control.
