Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued by a few individuals that tablets can be used for watching movies instead of watching movies on big screen while other ponders that cinema is the only source where movies can be fully enjoyed. Both opinions have their own importance as tablets are convenient, yet cinema provides better experience while watching a movie. This essay will discuss the same before reaching to the reasoned conclusion.

Watching a film on phone is convenient and time-saving. To explain, individuals do not need to travel as watch a movie as they can watch it at their house. Moreover, it also saves individual's money because there is no need to buy a ticket to watch a movie. To exemplify, nowadays youngsters prefer to watch all the new movies at their house because they do not want to spend money and movies are easily accessible on phones. Therefore, watching movies on tables have numerous benefits for individuals.

On the contrast side, watching movies in a cinema brings a real like experience to the individuals for their lifetime. To elaborate, when films are played on big screens people can enjoy better graphics and better audio quality that is not possible on the smartphone. For example, people give more preference to watch a new released movie as they want to get first experience of watching it in big screeen. Thus, watching movies on big screen provide life time experience to the people as they are unforgettable and they have always have image in their mind.

In conclusion, both views have their own valid points . However, in my perspective watching movies on phone are effective as it saves the travellling time and money of the public, yet movies are also enjoyed in cinema by people. People should watch movies on platforms according to their budget and their willingness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the benefits of convenience are mentioned, the arguments regarding the cinema experience are slightly repetitive, focusing mainly on 'graphics and audio'. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the social or atmospheric aspects of the cinema, such as the communal experience or the lack of distractions, to provide a more nuanced argument. Your position is clear, but the conclusion could be more decisive in synthesising the two viewpoints.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'To exemplify', and 'On the contrast side' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'This essay will discuss the same'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but improving the variety of linking words would help the essay flow more naturally and demonstrate a higher level of control over the structure of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'graphics', 'audio quality', and 'accessible'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'real like experience' (should be 'life-like') and 'on the contrast side' (should be 'on the contrary'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat narrow, relying on basic descriptors. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and precise terminology related to media and entertainment.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the cinema', 'a real like experience'), subject-verb agreement ('watching movies on phone are'), and prepositions ('at their house' instead of 'at home'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and subject-verb consistency.
