Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is an undeniable fact that, with the advent of technology people lives has become convenient in comparison to previous years. However, few individuals reckon that people do not need to go cinema to watch movies they can use their phone or tablets to see films while others ponder that it is an enjoyable experience to watch at cinema. As far as I am concerned I will explain both views along with my opinion in the upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with the former views,

some spectators believe that it is a wastage of money to spend in a cinema rather then people can utilize their cellphone or tablets to watch films as it can save their time as well as transportation cost that they can invest on productive work such as education.

On the paradoxical side, few people think that visiting a cinema is a fun because after their hectic schedule they get an opportunity to do something different that helps them to break the monotony of daily routine. Apart from that, it is good way to spend quality time with their peers and family members.

According to my point of view, individuals have to invest some time or currency on outdoor activities such as going to cinema, playing a games or joining yoga classes or gym that assist them to become a mentally and physically strong personality.

In the summation although, with technical gadgets people can watch films at home by saving their precious time and money but they miss a chance to broaden their horizon by interacting other people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is quite limited. For instance, the argument regarding the cinema as a way to 'break the monotony' is mentioned but not sufficiently expanded with specific examples or deeper analysis. The opinion provided in the third paragraph is somewhat generic and does not fully integrate with the previous arguments about film-watching. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your points, ensuring that the discussion feels balanced and thorough.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'On the paradoxical side', some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural. Additionally, the paragraphing is inconsistent; the second paragraph is very short, and the overall flow between the introduction, body, and conclusion could be smoother. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on some repetitive or slightly inaccurate phrasing, such as 'invest some time or currency' and 'mentally and physically strong personality'. While the meaning is clear, the choice of words is often basic. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations related to the topic of entertainment and technology. Avoid using informal or awkward phrasing like 'on the paradoxical side' and focus on using more natural, academic alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally hinder the flow. Examples include 'people lives has become' (subject-verb agreement), 'go cinema' (missing preposition), and 'interacting other people' (missing preposition). You rely mostly on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors in punctuation or syntax. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and the proper use of prepositions. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will also help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
