Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people watch films on digital devices while some prefer watching in a cinema.Watching in homes give privacy and ease while watching in a cinema gives enjoyment and a good experience. In this essay I will discuss both these views and give my opinion.

Watching movies using technology gives people the ease to watch according to their ease. Some people like to skip, replay, or pause a specific part of a movie. This can be easily achieved when they are watching at homes. Also you can watch movies according to whatever time suits you well. For example for people who work or go to offices might have free time only in the evening and they want to relax by watching movie with their family so they prefer to watch on their devices.

Watching movie in a cinema can give the benefit of watching on a big screen and people enjoy watching visuals clearly in a big view. Also Some people like to hangout or spend quality time with their friends and watching movie in a cinema might be a good way to spend quality time with them and enjoy the experience.

In my opinion, watching movies on phone or tablet is a better way because in cinemas tickets have price while you can watch movies on devices for free. Also people can easily skip the parts they don't like or replay their favourite parts. This can not be done while watching movies in a cinema.

In conclusion, watching movies on digital devices or on a big screen both are enjoyable and a fun activity but watching on device can allow you to watch at your own ease, pace and comfort.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention convenience and cost-effectiveness for home viewing, and social benefits for cinema viewing, these points are not fully extended with deep analysis or sophisticated examples. The argument remains somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion where you reiterate points already made. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph explores the implications of your ideas more thoroughly rather than just listing them. Your position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a positive aspect of your task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple transitions like 'Also' and 'In conclusion'. There is a lack of more sophisticated linking words or phrases that would help the flow of ideas between sentences and paragraphs. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and some sentences feel disjointed. Improving the variety of your cohesive devices and ensuring that your ideas transition more smoothly would significantly enhance the readability and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use basic terms such as 'good experience', 'fun activity', and 'ease' repeatedly. While the meaning is always clear, there is little attempt to use less common or more idiomatic vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic or descriptive language. For example, instead of 'good way to spend quality time', you could use 'an ideal social engagement'. The spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical range is limited to common, everyday words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt some complex sentences, there are frequent errors in punctuation, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'cinema.Watching', 'privacy and ease while'). There are also minor grammatical slips, such as 'for people who work or go to offices might have' (incorrect subject-verb structure) and 'watching movie' (missing articles). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence variety and proofreading for basic punctuation and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
