Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays film industry plays a vital role in society by providing motivational and purpose driven movies to audience. Whether, to watch these movies on a big screen or on mobile with comfort of home is a contentious argument. I stand with the later view. I will discuss both views with relevant examples along with my point of view in upcoming paragraphs.

To begin with, platforms like 'Netflix' and Amazon prime' provide a chance to enjoy same movie at the finger tips of your hand. To exemplify, most working proffesionals who don't have spare time to visit a cinema prefer this service. Not only these options allow them to get rid of travelling time, also they can play and pause according to their wish. In addition, film maker also go with this at the later stages of releasing because they can earn money. To explain it, producers often sell rights of film to OTT platforms as it can generate the revenue and reach to mass audience which fulfills the purpose of making.

On the contrary, movie piracy is also promoted by this trend. Most of the time, illegal websites offers content online for free which leads to loss of the movie makers and the cinemas who purchased shows from them. Moreover, I prefer to visit the theaters rather then watching it on a phone because of feel and experience. It is to say that, cinema halls provides comfortable sitting, lighting and emersive sound experience whereas, home has none of them to offer.

In Conclusion, I believe that there is no problem with choosing comfort of home while watching film but it should be in legal way as movie making casts put lots of efforts and money behind each film.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of home viewing are explained well, the discussion on cinema-going is less detailed and relies on general statements about 'feel and experience' rather than specific, well-supported arguments. The introduction mentions the author stands with the 'later' view, but the conclusion seems to shift slightly toward a balanced view, which creates a minor inconsistency in the position. To reach a higher band, ensure that the personal opinion is consistently maintained and that both sides of the prompt are explored with equal depth and specific examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'To exemplify', and 'On the contrary', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'It is to say that'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for instance, in the second paragraph, the phrase 'film maker also go with this' lacks a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text, though the flow could be improved with more sophisticated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'contentious', 'proffesionals' (spelling error), and 'emersive'. However, there are several spelling errors ('proffesionals', 'emersive') and some awkward collocations, such as 'at the finger tips of your hand' and 'movie making casts'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but the lack of precision and the presence of spelling mistakes prevent it from reaching a higher band. Focusing on accurate word choice and correct spelling of common academic terms would significantly improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Whether, to watch these movies... is a contentious argument' (incorrect punctuation and structure), 'Not only these options allow them... also they can' (incorrect correlative conjunction usage), and 'theaters rather then' (incorrect word choice). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct usage of conjunctions, and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid run-on or fragmented structures.
