Student answer (Band 6.5)
Several people choose to see films on their phones or tablets while other people prefer going to the cinema. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion.
On the one hand, watching films on phones or tablets is affordable and more convenient. Individuals who watch movies on their phones, spends less as compared to the people who visit the cinema. The cost of a movie ticket and the transportation to the cinema is often times expensive. A financially average movie lover will prefer to see movies on their phone to save cost and have a great time. Furthermore, watching films on phones or tablets is more convenient. A film lover can see a movie from the comfort of their phones or workplaces. This appears to be more relaxing and cozier for these individuals. For example, going to the cinema will require picking an outfit, choosing a transportation system and waiting on long queues to purchase the movie tickets. These can simply be avoided by using the mobile phones to see the movie.
On the other hand, seeing movies in the cinema has a better experience and reduces our access to pirated movies. The cinema has a bigger screen and, on some occasions, 3D effect. These can help create a better viewing experience than watching on the tablets or phones. Watching in the cinema with people has a flattering feeling, from their reactions to the movie or their actions. Also, watching films in cinema limits access to pirated movies. For example, several persons unofficially release movies on unverified website. This results in movie lovers having access to low-quality films.
In conclusion, several individuals prefer to see films on their phones or tablets because they are more affordable and convenient. I prefer cinema, as it provides a better experience and limits access to pirated movies.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, such as the discussion on convenience versus the immersive experience of a cinema. However, the development of the second viewpoint could be more nuanced; for instance, the link between cinema attendance and piracy is a bit tenuous and could have been explained more clearly to fully support the argument. Overall, the position is consistent throughout the essay, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 level of task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some transitions between sentences within paragraphs feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more varied. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the development of the argument well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'pirated movies', 'viewing experience', and 'convenient'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as 'flattering feeling' to describe the atmosphere of a cinema, which does not quite capture the intended meaning. The range is sufficient to convey the message, but more precise or sophisticated collocations would be needed to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Individuals... spends less') and minor prepositional errors (e.g., 'on their phones' vs 'from their phones'). Punctuation is generally correct, but the control over complex structures is not yet consistent enough for a higher band. The errors present do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this category.
