Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the social benefits of cinemas versus the convenience of home viewing. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument about saving time and money is mentioned multiple times in the second body paragraph. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more nuanced analysis rather than repeating the same benefits. The position is consistent throughout, which is a positive aspect of your writing.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'that things' in the third paragraph. The transition between the discussion of the two views and your own opinion could be smoother. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that pronouns clearly refer back to the intended nouns to improve the overall cohesion of your arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'see the movie' and 'good experience'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'big protectors' (likely meaning 'big screens') and 'electronical devices'. While your meaning is clear, the lack of sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits your score. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to media and entertainment and try to avoid repeating the same basic verbs throughout your essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include article misuse ('at a one time', 'at a home'), subject-verb agreement ('Punjab Times say', 'person can spend'), and awkward phrasing ('discuss about their views'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. To improve, focus on mastering basic article usage and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
