Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this technological era, people are more towards mobile phones. They are more comfortable doing things at home. They find this more convenient to get everything in their comfort zone.

I also think watching films on tablets is good idea because we can see so many films at home comfortably. Like, if we want to see film in cinema we have to go outside, we have to sit there with so many people and again we have to come back that can take so much time. In that time, we can watch so many films. Also, watching at home is more cheaper. We don’t have buy tickets because there is so many platforms are available where people can watch and download films like google and YouTube. In today generation, people don’t have time to go to cinema so they can watch films at anywhere and whenever they want.

However, some people also think that films should be seen in cinema because we can Socialise with many people and share our views with people. It is good way to meet with new people. They think, watching films on a big screen is way more than on phone. Sometimes I also think is a good way. For example, when I was in school, my classmates and I went in a cinema to watch educational film. Where we had to create research on that films. We were working in a group. On big screen everything clear and screen. We didn’t have any distractions because first we wanted to do our assignment on phone but it was so distracting.

So, in that we can also get knowledge.

But everyone has their own preferences. I think that both of them have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, fulfilling the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The arguments regarding convenience and social interaction are presented but lack depth and specific, well-explained examples. For instance, the mention of 'research on that films' is vague and does not clearly illustrate why the cinema experience was superior in an academic context. The position is clear, but the overall analysis remains superficial, preventing the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed reasoning and clearer real-world examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'In this technological era' and 'However' are used, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs are sometimes abrupt. For example, the shift from discussing home viewing to cinema viewing lacks a smooth logical flow. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'In that we can also get knowledge,' which does not clearly link back to the previous argument. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic, repetitive phrasing such as 'so many films,' 'good way,' and 'go outside.' There are also some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'more cheaper' (a double comparative error) and 'create research on that films.' While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of more sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits the score. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations related to media consumption and social experiences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('there is so many platforms'), article usage ('in a cinema' vs 'at the cinema'), and incorrect comparative structures ('more cheaper'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is usually understandable, the high frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for common errors like double comparatives will help you improve your score.
