Student answer (Band 6.5)

Multiplex cinema has become popular in the recent years. While few individuals think that people do not need to go to the cinema as they can watch movies on their phones or tablets. However, others argue that people should go to the cinema to be fully enjoyed. This essay will discuss both these views before giving my opinion.

There are several advantages of watching movies on the personal electronic devices. Firstly, it is more convenient. This is because, individuals could enjoy movies anytime and anywhere. In cinemas, they have a limited time shows available that make it difficult to manage for those who have hectic schedule. Moreover, people could see movies on their own devices more comfortably compared to theatres. Most of cinemas may have congested and uncomfortable chair to fit more people, where you have to be seated on it for longer hours. As a result, people could feel tired and uncomfortable; however, for example, if individuals prefer to see movie at home either on the phone or tablet, they could lie down on sofas or be relaxed on recliners.

On the other hand, watching movies in cinema could create different experience and there are many reasons of it. The major one is that an effective sound system and bigger screen of the cinema can create an amazing experience for the viewers. For instance. I have watched a movie named "Dabang" at home on phone which I felt so boring because of low sound and smaller screen. However, I have seen the same movie in the theatre with my friends, and it was so amazing. The loud and effective sound system creates lively moment and people can fully enjoy with fantastic theatre vibe.

In my opinion, sometimes people should watch movies on their own phones or tablets if it becomes hard to manage with busy schedule. However, some movies are so boring to see at home and movie lovers have to visit theatres to be fully enjoyed and get different vibe.

In conclusion, although watching movies on our own devices provides convenience and comfort, I believe spectators should go to the cinema to enjoy the vibe of the effective sound system and to create amazing visual experience.

In my opinion,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of mobile devices versus the immersive experience of a cinema. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the argument regarding cinema comfort could be more nuanced, and the personal example provided is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your supporting points with more sophisticated reasoning or broader societal implications rather than relying solely on personal preference.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the sentence 'there are many reasons of it', which is slightly awkward. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the structure supports the reader's understanding throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'multiplex', 'hectic schedule', 'spectators', and 'immersive'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'congested chair' (should be 'cramped seating') and 'lively moment' (which does not quite capture the intended meaning). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is inconsistent. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—to ensure your writing sounds more natural and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'in the recent years' (should be 'in recent years'), 'most of cinemas' (should be 'most cinemas'), and 'to be fully enjoyed' (which is passive and slightly awkward in this context). Punctuation is generally fine, but there are some sentence fragments, such as 'For instance. I have watched...', where the period should be a comma. You have good control, but more attention to articles and verb forms is needed for a higher score.
