Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, but the development of ideas is limited. The essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which prevents a full exploration of the topic. The arguments regarding convenience versus the cinematic experience are presented but lack depth and supporting detail. The conclusion is brief and does not effectively synthesize the points made. Because the response is under-length, it fails to meet the basic requirements of the task, which limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'Also' and 'But'. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the lack of sophisticated linking words makes the flow feel disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the paragraphing, while present, does not fully support a logical progression of ideas. The introduction is particularly weak, lacking a clear thesis statement.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple words like 'fun', 'good', or 'amazing'. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'smarthphone', 'paragharps', 'asscessible', 'nowdays', 'expericene', and 'accisable'. These errors, combined with limited word choice, hinder the overall quality of the writing. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to the topic, such as 'cinematic experience' or 'technological advancements', instead using very general language. To improve, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary and focus on accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('watching movies... are more joyful'), incorrect sentence fragments ('Then watching on your smarthphone'), and misuse of prepositions and articles. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with misplaced commas and periods. These frequent errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. A greater focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips is essential.
